I love hydrangeas and have been on the lookout for several months trying to find some pretty silk ones. I grabbed this basket right up when I spotted it! I really loved the muted colors and what a bargain at $3.
I have been playing around and haven't yet decided which room to keep them in.
Not too far down from the cabbage tureen I spotted this cute print, also for $4.
It looks so French, ooh la la...
and looks wonderful above my whirlpool tub.
Looks like a French Soap label!

I haven't really decorated much for spring.
I was inspired though, by all the pretty apothecary jars on different blogs, to make a little bird filled one for my coffee table!
I have been giving this little cabbage set the eye, for quite some time. This whole set was just $4. Lucky for me, he was in a booth that was pretty much off the beaten path at the flea market, so he waited patiently until I decided that yes, he must come home with me! This was someone's ceramic project in the 1970's. Isn't it amazing how some things really don't go out of style? Cabbage style dishes are all the rage! I think he is quite adorable with the matching salt and pepper shakers. They even have real vintage salt in them!I was inspired though, by all the pretty apothecary jars on different blogs, to make a little bird filled one for my coffee table!

At the Salvation Army store I found a roll of Waverly red and white grape toile border for .50 cents. No plans for it yet, but I am sure I will think of something!

I am so ready for it it be warm and sunny!
I am so ready to put on my gardening overalls and putter in my plants!
Soon...we will get to go to Lowe's and buy all the picket fence for my kitchen garden!
It was dry enough a couple of days ago for us to finish putting in most of the spring garden. We planted radishes, green onions, lettuce, turnips, beets & peas. I went to Wal-mart yesterday and they had pack of 9 tomatoes for $3. I bought a pack each of Celebrity and Better Boys. Eighteen tomato plants, that's a good start! I am already thinking of fresh salsa. Doug said these were the littlest tomato plants he has ever seen. Right now they are sunbathing on my back step! Grow little tomato plants, GROW!

I also bought a jiffy pot that had 4 Basil plants in it for $3. Basil is just about my most favorite herb! Basil is kind of a tricky herb to try to dry and preserve because it can turn black. But I have had pretty good luck freezing the leaves whole and then giving them a rough chop before adding them to spaghetti sauce. Hmmm...I am also thinking how yummy basil is with a thinly sliced tomato on a slice of crispy french bread!

Hope everyone enjoys a beautiful weekend!
We are going to see Disney on Ice tomorrow!
I can hardly wait!

The cabbage set is wonderful. I did ceramics in the l970s, but never made anything that cute. Looks like you will be making salsa before you know it!!! Sally
Hi Jill! Love your finds...those hydrangeas are going to look great wherever you put them...and that cute print...what a bargain.
Fresh tomato salsa has my mouth watering! I am something of a fire eater and like mine loaded with jalapenos...just a side note for when I come for lunch! LOL I'm so glad to be following your blog...I always enjoy it.
Blessings,
Susie
Wonderful finds! I've been looking for some pretty faux hydrangeas too but the nice ones are so pricey and the cheap ones are so fakey! Yours are gorgeous!
Your garden is going to be fabulous! If I wasn't growing pumpkins, we'd be buying up all the picket fence at Lowe's too! I've been dreaming of a fenced in garden!
I really love your finds! Oh how I wish I was so lucky! The cabbages DO NOT look like they are a ceramic project! They are beautiful!
Have a wonderful weekend!!!
Kim
I love hydrangeas and I love, love, love that cabbage set.
You sure had great luck finding those wonderful treasure! Have a great weekend, Eshter
Jill, I just found you, and I am so glad I did!! You have such a beautiful home.
You found some really neat stuff, and what bargains they were! I would love to have a garden, but my back yard is really tiny. Basil is my very favorite herb too!
I hope you have a wonderful weekend, Nicole
$4 bucks!? Really? You got some amazing stuff there! Love the cabbage and your little bird in the jar. So sweet. Basil does pretty well in AZ. Its the tomatoes that are the big challenge here! Just love a Midwestern 'mater! :)

Jill,
You always find such awesome goodies! Great eye for decorating :) Oh how I wish we could plant soon. Our growing season doesn't start until after Memorial Day. We just got 3 inches of snow last night and it is still snowing!
Enjoy your treats!
What great finds. Yes, it is amazing about the cabbage dishes and I think yours are pretty super!
I, too, love basil and never try to dry it -- instead prefering to put it in pesto which I freeze or just put it in olive oil and keep it in the fridge. A spoonful over roasted tomatoes . . . .a spoonful added to pasta sauce . . .it tastes like summer!
I love bargin shopping. Nothing makes me happier than to find something I love at a great price!
I went to my first garage sale of the spring season yesterday...today we are slated for rain/snow it the Kansas City area. I love basil too! I'm like Martha, I usually make pesto. Can't get enough or it or bruschetta with olive oil and tomatoes and goat cheese!
Wow! What wonderful finds! Don't you just love that. You'll have to come by and see my fabulous Friday find! That cabbage takes me back, as my Mom had that and the s&p shakers! I haven't seen that in years. I wonder if she has that packed away somewhere. Hope you had fun at Disney on Ice. What fun! Have a blessed Sunday.
Hi Jill, I love the Hydrangias my friend Kathleen loves silk flowers I will show her these. Your web site is so pretty I have been away for a few days so it is a pleasure to come back and have lots of lovely things to look at.
Regards
Gill
I love all your great finds, especially the cabbage set, that is just too cute! Your garden also sounds like it's going to be fun, can't wait to see the pickets up around it (;
Hugs~Kelly
Hi Jill :)
I had no idea those were fake until I read your post! They're beautiful :)
I wish I could start a garden right now, but we're still getting frost warnings and today it's only 36... Basil sounds like a great thing to grow :)
hugs,
rue
